E-Protest: Not a single cent for nuclear power!
The European Union Energy DG obviously erased figures in its latest draft report on the amount of public subsidies granted to the different forms of generating electricity!
An earlier copy indicated that in 2011 € 35 billion were spent on public subsidies to nuclear power, € 26 billion to fossil fuels and only € 30 billion on all types of renewable energies.
Why did the EU Commission remove the figures on state subsidies for nuclear power?
Because it turned out that nuclear power is subsidised the most!
A rather uncomfortable finding for the DG Energy: Renewables were certainly not receiving the highest level of subsidies whereas nuclear did again, which is why those figures were quickly erased. Current pronuclear spin loves to talk about “over subsidised” renewables causing high electricity prices. This would provide arguments for lower subsidies on renewables and for allowing the introduction of even higher state aid for the construction of new nuclear power plants.
We continue to fight against any new state aid for nuclear power and we demand from Joaquin Almunia, EU Commissioner for Competition, responsible for permitting state aid by member states:
- Transparency: Make the figures public
- Not a single cent for nuclear!
